It is easy to say that we do not have it all together. We are far from being perfect. We become painfully aware that we have certain short comings that even though we try, keep coming up again and again.
The first thing we need to realize is that God loves us not because we are perfect but because we are God’s sons and daughters. Second, God wants us to have the humility to admit we need God’s help in correcting our faults. God is willing to work with us to overcome certain habitual faults as God leads us in taking one step at a time. We can identify with St. Paul when he says, “The things that I don’t want to do I do and the things I do want to do I don’t.” Our merciful God understands this. With God’s help we can accomplish what we by ourselves would find it almost impossible to do. This does not mean that we can remain passive. Maybe St. Theresa of Avila’s words can be helpful. She has said, “ We need to pray like everything depends on God and act like everything depends on us.
In the long run our short comings can provide a door for us to receive God’s unconditional love. By receiving this kind of love from God we prepare ourselves for loving others in the same way.
