We live in an age of cynicism. It can be easy to fall into hopelessness. Our problems can
seem overwhelming.
Jesus came to give us a new perspective for a new world order. Even in the midst of an
occupation by a foreign power, he was called to proclaim in his teaching and by his actions
the “Kingdom of God.” This meant seeing with new eyes. Jesus saw the good in all of
creation. He saw the good in people. He wanted to cure their “blindness.” “Before you try to
remove the spec from your brother’s eye, remove the beam from your own.”
When we see with the eyes of faith, new possibilities break through. Each day we are made
aware of the next steps we can take in doing our part to bring about the kingdom of God into
the situations in which we find ourselves. With the power of God’s grace, our saying “yes” to
life can make a difference. “I have come that they might have life and have it more
abundantly.” There are many examples of how even one person can make a difference by
sharing gifts within their own communities and in the media which can make it known around
the world. We are aware of how individuals and community organizations have come forth
to the aid of people who are faced with tragedies of one kind or another. Our faith and our
actions can bring about a better world.
• Are you aware of your own significance in bringing hope to a troubled world?
• Can you think of examples in which one person truly made a difference?
• Do you bring hope and zeal to the table in your family and communities?
O God, help me do my part in bringing about your “kingdom.”
