When we plan our lives with certain goals in mind, we find that things often do not go
our way. There are going to be losses. These could be a change in our health or the
health of the people that we have counted on, or there could be changes in situations
in “our world” over which we lack control. In any case these losses may cause grief
and can lead to a form of depression, especially if we think they are all about us.
As Christians we need to look at what Jesus went through even before his death on a
cross. Even the people that were closest to him did not really understand his message
about the kingdom of God. They were men who were wrapped up in their own ideas
of who Jesus was and what he should be accomplishing.
When we are ready to accept the new reality of doors closing, we know in faith that we
can be assured that new doors will open for us. With God’s help and in God’s time we
will become aware of possibilities that lead to new life. Our losses will become that
source of what God has in store for us – new stepping stones to fulfilling our destiny.
• Do you think often about the losses in your life?
• Have you experienced a way forward once you have accepted your losses?
• Does your faith help you in making this transition?
O God, give me the wisdom to see your hand in what I experience in life.
