As a new year begins, we think of what will make this year new and significant. Each of
us is growing older, and we become more aware that our time on earth does have its
limits. Our death is in our future along with our birth into a new realm of being.
Knowing this reality could encourage us to make a difference in this limited time that
we are given.
How can we transform this desire of wanting to make a difference, become something
real in the days ahead? The best way this can happen is not by dwelling on the past or
being consumed by what might happen in our future, but to see this moment as
something sacred as a gift that is given to us. It is an opportunity to listen to the voice
of love, the voice of God. God is always speaking the words of invitation to enter our
hearts and lead us in ways that make this day a time of significance. It will be
significant because it will be motivated out of love and open to the reality which goes
beyond our expectations. This motivation will then be present in the people we will
meet and the situations we will experience this day.
