Ana’s Little reflection for the Holy Cross

Hello Everyone, My name is Ana Patterson. I am not only a proud Holy Cross Associate, I am also a full-time teacher at Moreau Catholic  High School where I am also the Moderator of the Student Senate, and I also volunteer as a moderator for both the Red Cross Club and the Polynesian Club as well. Every school year has its ups and downs; however, this particular year as many of you will agree, has been definitely one of the hardest ones we have encountered. Adding to the pandemic, and the difficultly of adjusting to remote learning, our students and staff are witnessing times where many people are acting radical. Unfortunately, there is a lot of hate out there, oppression, and injustice. At times we wonder “what is going on?” “When is this going to end?” “What can we do about all this?” Many times I have found myself asking these questions in my prayers to God. Until recently I realized I have my answers right in front of me, within my students. It is very moving to me to see them in action, trying to help others. In the school’s various clubs, many students are organizing different events where they can help the most vulnerable; they conduct remote gatherings to speak out for social justice. So my answers are here! We teachers and staff of the Holy Cross Community need to continue working with the students, keeping in mind that educating the mind is equally as important as educating the heart.
