When we observe what is going on around us, we see many people searching for love in all of
the wrong places. They might be addicted to shopping, sex, food, the power that comes from
wanting to be number one. Underneath these surface attempts is the desire to be loved for
who they truly are, not giving in to the pressures and values that a society considers as
“having arrived.”
But it is authentic love that makes the world go around. Out of love God created the cosmos
and that includes us. Our self-image might be distorted so that we see ourselves as “not OK.”
This could come from our childhood history or from the demands that society places on us.
Jesus comes into our world to tell us that he knows our true worth. He wants to prove this by
saving us with God’s divine love. It is this kind of love that sets us free to be what God has
created us to be. It is our becoming more and more aware of this love that unites us with all
of God’s creation, that brings us inner peace and joy as we pursue our purpose in life. We are
now able to free ourselves of the many addictions that can come our way.

  • Have you become aware of the divine love within you?
  • If so, has it helped you to deal with the addictions this society offers?
  • Has it helped you to discover what true love is?

  • O God, open my heart to receive the fulness of your divine love.
