While religious men and women take a vow of obedience, every Christian needs to make following God’s will an important part of their spiritual growth. It is our prayer life that enables us to focus of the will of God. “Thy will be done according to thy word.” When we come to God in silence, we give God the opportunity to share God’s unconditional love and God’s plan for our life. It was Carlo Acutis giving his life to Jesus that made him our new canonized, teenage saint.

Part of God’s will is the fulfillment of our destiny in our vocation of married life, religious life, or single life. We then are able to experience the joy of having God’s blessing on us. We can never be far from God’s will when we reach out with love and concern to our neighbor, the fundamental requirement of every Christian.

When we surrender to God’s will in our prayer life, we will be able to turn to God throughout the day. It is surrender in the act of engagement. We will be able to put our life into God’s hands. Remember Mary’s prayer, “Be it done to me according to your word.”

  • Does your prayer life enable you to surrender to God’s will?
  • Do you find yourself asking for God’s guidance throughout your day?
  • Do you have new energy and peace knowing that you are doing God’s will?

O God, I put my life into your hands.
