In our life, we face many possibilities. We have to make choices as to what we are going to do, when we are going to act, with whom we are going to spend our time. There are many decisions to make. There are people who urge us to join them in their cause. There are products that we are persuaded to buy. How do we find a way forward with so many things that crave our attention?

Maybe first we need to take the time to know our own hearts. Who are we? What is our deepest desire? What gives us a sense of well-being? Christians are called to be other Christs, and we are called to let his love shine through us. Our prayer could be, “O Lord, please give us your love, that is all I ask. I give you my heart, my life You alone are my God.”

It is out of this desire that we can say with St. Paul, “It is no longer I that lives but Christ that lives within me.” Having that kind of relationship with Christ brings us many blessings. In each situation that we face, we can ask ourselves the question, “What would Jesus do?” It is then that we receive the grace to let Christ act through us. Grounded in Christ’s love, our identity and the choices we make become clear. We know our own hearts.

  • What helps you in making choices for your life?
  • Do you feel grounded in Christ’s love for you?
  • What part does God play in the living out of your vocation in life?

O God, help me know the deepest desires of my heart.
