Life can go by fast as we settle into our daily routine. One day flows into another without our noticing the passing of time. Then there are the few times when light bursts forth in life when we can begin to see with new eyes. Things are not the same when things like graduation, choice of career, choice of vocation, death, or absence of family members occurs. We begin to see with new eyes. God gives us moments of breakthrough and clarity in which we are able to discern a direction for our lives. In such moments God’s light can shine through the stained glass of our uniqueness to reveal the many colors of which we are made and especially the people whom we love. Victor Hugo says, “When we love another person, we will see the face of God.”

This happened in Jesus’ life at his transfiguration and in Paul’s life as he traveled down the road. With an experience of God acting in our life, our own light begins to shine. “This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine.” This is the new evangelization. Our light bursts forth in a dark world.

  • Have you experienced the “Christ light” shining in your life?
  • How does your light shine in your daily life?
  • Is there a connection between light and love?
