What is it about love that makes it the prime motivation for the creation of all things? For the believer this means that all of creation comes for the same source, even the leaf on a tree. This love was so intense that it enabled the Christ to become flesh and dwell among us. The Father’s love for his Son is reflected in all that Jesus said and did. He never fell into the traps that many people find themselves making in a false kind of love – for money, power, and pleasure. Jesus’ love was altruistic. His motivation was only love even when he chided others for their failings. This love found in his family, in his community, in his disciples, in his followers, and eventually to include all the peoples of the earth is a testimony as to how far love can go.
It is the risen Christ that extends to each of us a sharing in the same love that the Father has for his Son. When we want to share our love without being caught up in traps, we need to rely of Christ to teach us that kind love which is free and leads to a person’s wholeness – a love that lasts “come rain or shine.” (Such a love we can see in the life of Pope Francis.)
Reflect on your experience of love.
- Is God involved in how you love?
- Do you agree that the ultimate energy in the cosmos is love?
O God, help me recognize the power that love has in my life.
