How does God see you? Is God most concerned about how many imperfections you have as
you live this challenging life? Or does God see the wonderful person God has created and
loves unconditionally, the unique person God has created?
Knowing who God is, for us is so important when considering our spiritual life and also how
we view ourselves. We are all sinners but that is not the ultimate description of who we are
and the call that God has planned for each of us. We only have to become aware of the faults
and sins of the Apostles. Jesus called his first followers and even used their imperfections to
achieve God’s purposes in the building up of the Church, as when Thomas first denied the
resurrection. We are a “pilgrim church” as Vatican II reminds us. We are not there yet but
we are on the road to the destination. We are led by many people who have shown us the
way. This is the wonderful reality of the spiritual life. Even though the road is bumpy at
times, our faith and hope will help us focus on what is really important in arriving at our
destination and our destiny.
As the Constitutions of the Congregation of Holy Cross states: We follow along the path
others have travelled. We can walk each day in this faith and have the assurance that God
will not let us face our perils alone. This is the big picture.
• Does your image of God affect how you view yourself?
• Are you able to see what God sees in you beyond your imperfections?
• Describe the big picture as you think about your life.
O God, help me grasp more fully your plan for my life.
