We live each day of our lives keenly aware of what needs to be accomplished during that day,
in our relationships, in our work, for our health, and in the routine that gets us moving to
meet the challenges ahead of us. Maybe there is a little time for reflection. Maybe it helps us
put the day in perspective. This is our reality.
But there is an image that comes to mind from another dimension. It is of Jesus knocking at
our door. He has no way to enter our home because there is no handle on his side. Only we
can open the door to let him in. What would happen if we unlocked the door and opened it,
giving him entrance? We know his purpose. He wants to shower us with his unconditional
love, a love that does not depend on our worthiness. He knows all about our circumstances,
with all the things that have brought us to this point in our lives and make us timid in wanting
to give him full entrance. He has a love that wants to heal us and make up for the guilt and
shame we could be feeling. We only have to believe that that kind of love is possible and to
surrender to it. Then we may freely go to the community to experience in a sacramental way
that we have been forgiven. If this surrender is the true gage on what is real, then everything
else can fall into place.
• What concerns you about the reality of your life?
• How are you dealing with these concerns?
• Have you opened your heart to Jesus’ love for you in a way that has become real in
your life?
O God, help me open my heart to experience your unconditional love for me.
