We look at the life of Queen Elizabeth. We admire her seventy years of service. We can ask
as we live from year to year, what will be our legacy? Will it be our actions, the positions we
have held, the people we have known? The list could go on. Or rather, will it simply be
whether we are the person that God created us to be? We could ask the question that God
might ask us: are you that unique person that I have created you to be? And have you shown
the love that I have for you to others? Has that love been able to overflow into your
relationships with people, situations, and other things that I have placed into your life?
If we could experience that love and become the channel for giving that same love, what else
would matter. Everything else that we have accumulated is transitory – the money that can
buy things, the power and control we think we possess in conducting our affairs, the
pleasures that we have pursued. “Vanity of vanities” says the wisdom of the Bible. Jesus
says: “Blessed are the poor for theirs in the kingdom of God.”
Who are we? The love of God active in our hearts and minds will give us the answer. What
God is asking of us is to receive that love and then give it away. What else could lead to a
fulfilling life?
• What is taking up most of your time and energy right now?
• What would you like to happen in your future?
• How would you answer the question: “Who are you?”
O God, help me be the person you have created me to be.
