Jesus says that he is the vine and we are the branches. Where do the branches get its green leaves, and its ability to produce the grapes? In the metaphor it is from the vine that is Christ. It is Christ who creates the dynamic the gives energy, strength do produce the fruit. Without this source the branches would wither and die.
How often do we experience the hidden Christ within us? It is sad when Christians try to go it alone thinking that they can rely on their own power to bring Christ to others. When we acknowledge the Christ within as the source of our motivation, our whole attitude can change and the task does not seem so insurmountable. Our optimism is not just a choice that we make. It is rooted in a faith and trust that we are simply a messager bringing about a relationship between God and the person with whom we are conversing. God gives us grace to step aside and allow that connection come to life. By surrendering our cause to God, the hidden Christ can show himself and do marvelous things through us.
