In no religion is the body more significant than in the Christian religion. Jesus, our savior, came to us in his body. His birth, life, death and magnificent resurrection was in his body. In faith we Christians were known as the “Body of Christ.” We receive his body, blood, soul and divinity when we receive communion. Our bodies are known as the temple of the Holy Spirit. Our salvation will be complete with the resurrection of the body and life everlasting.
Care for our bodies is the gateway to a holistic spirituality. We are not disembodied spirits. Like Jesus our bodies are wrapped up in the divine life as the children of God. The way we treat our bodies is part of our spiritual growth. Do we consider this as care for our bodies? How often did Jesus cure people with physical healing? He wants us to also to take part in a healing ministry through our presence and through our prayers for those who are suffering.
Did you know that you can dialog with your body? You can tell it that you love it as God loves it. You can ask it for what it needs for health and healing and ask Jesus to heal it.
- Do you see care for your body as part of growing spiritually?
- How are you caring for your body?
- How can you bring healing to those in need?
O God, in what ways to you want me to care for my body?
