“What about me?” A question we might ask ourselves. How easy it is to spend our days drowning in our own inability to bring about our own happiness. How easy it is to spend time regretting the choices that we have made obsessing on what has kept us from achieving what we had hoped to achieve.
God, instead, I want to turn to praising and thanking you. Most psalms begin with praising and thanking God for all of the gifts God has given us. God’s unconditional love gives us even the breath that we breathe and without it, where would we be?
Praising and thanking God gets our mind off ourselves and the confusion that may result. We need thankfully to accept the blessings that come to us as gifts. By bringing these many benefits to mind, in acts of praise and thankfulness, we will notice that our negative mind-set will change. We happily will begin to see the “forest and not only the trees.”
Those who have a serious illness that could be terminal can soon become aware of the beauty and glory of each day of their lives. This insight, when shared, becomes a blessing to those around them and may show others what truly living can mean.
- Is giving praise and thanks to God a priority for you?
- When do you say this kind of prayer?
- Has this kind of prayer given you a thankful attitude about your life?
O God, I always want to give praise and thanks to you for my life.
