Father Moreau, the founder of the Congregation of Holy Cross, had a special devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He bid his community to say this prayer each day:
“O heart of my Jesus, make me ever love you more and more.”
This was important to him and to us because it gets us in touch with the love God has for us as we reciprocate our love for the person of Jesus. It is through love that we can become focused on the force that motivates all of God’s creation. It is the reason for Jesus’ mission to bring about the Kingdom of God based on that love.
As we experience love, the most powerful of all forces, we do not have to be afraid of any other motivation that might be stronger. There are those who want to take away our freedom to love causing us to be afraid as they threaten us with dire predictions. But if we hold on to our faith, hope, and love, we will be able to see and act in a way that Jesus has taught us by his living and dying and rising above any harm that could come to us. “O heart of my Jesus, make me ever love you more and more.”
