Why has Christianity lasted over two thousand years? Part of the reason is that its
followers can identify with the story of Jesus’ life and his overcoming of death in his
resurrection. This same dynamic is present in many religions and in the way the
universe has been created. Out of death new life springs forth. We are aware of its
presence even in the changing of the seasons.
If it is in our scriptures, if it is in creation, it is also in the seasons of our lives. We
should not be surprised when we experience new life springing forth. Our growth
depends on a letting go, which seems like a death to the dawning of a new awaking.
A new perspective, a new way of looking at things, new opportunities, and insights
awaken in us. What is beautiful is that Jesus is living out his story once again in the
story of our lives. He is with us as we experience ups and downs, deaths, and
resurrections. We do not have to go through all of these growing pains alone.
