What happens when we experience the unconditional love that God has uniquely for
us? First of all, God calls each of us by our name. God recognizes that particular part
of us that reflects who God is. It is the way a mother or father sees in their daughter
and son some reflection of themselves. This brings joy to God. No wonder God loves
us so much with a love that is uniquely for us. “You are my beloved son, in whom I
have well pleased,” God, the Father says of Jesus. It is also said of us when we can
experience in prayer what St. Paul experienced when he said, “It is no longer I that live,
but Christ (God) who lives in me.”
Like Jesus, we are born of God and connected to one another in Christ as sisters and
brothers. The implications of this realization are overwhelming. The Christian life truly
lived with this awareness is very attractive in a world so full of limited fulfillment. As
Pope Francis and St. Francis of Assisi have said, “Preach the Gospel, the Good News,
and sometimes use words.”

  • Have you experienced God’s love for you in your prayer?
  • Do you feel that you are “special” in God’s eyes?
  • What part of you is reflected in the God you believe in?

  • O God, help me to recognize your presence in me.
