It has been said many times that the only time we have any real say in what we
experience, is what is happening now. The past is over, and the future contains many
unpredictable circumstances. How do we perceive the most of what we are experiencing
now? If we have the faith to believe that God is present in us and can act through us, then
this time is significant. In the here and now we can be open to God’s communication with
us in what we are seeing, hearing, feeling, and in what is happening inside of us. What is
taking place now can take on a rich meaning.
Just as Jesus spent a great portion of his life doing ordinary human things and responding
to the needs of people who came into his life, we too are able to become aware of God’s
presence in the happenings of our lives. Some have called this awareness praying our
experiences. Jesus says that even a cup of water given in God’s name will be significant.
Our good thoughts and kind actions can make a difference. Maybe God will allow Jesus to
roll back the curtain so we can behold our place in the cosmos of all of God’s creation.
Now is a time to be cherished.
- Is it difficult for you to stay focused on what is happening now?
- Are you able to be aware of God’s presence in all of your experiences?
- Does your present reality lead you to a hopeful future?
O God, help me be open to your presence in the experiences of my life.
