Who are your heroes? Are they connected to history, sports, celebrities from the
media, the arts? Maybe they are political or people in the military. As Catholics we
have another set of heroes that we celebrate throughout the liturgical year – the
saints. These are women and men who have not been perfect in every way, but who
opened their hearts to receive God’s presence and as result are able to do great things.
As Associates and Friends of Holy Cross, we can honor two important people who are
part of our heritage: James Dujarie and Basil Moreau. Each followed God’s plan in
creating new communities. Dujarie lived in the time of the French Revolution. He
went from parish to parish incognito and still was able to have founded the Brothers of
St. Joseph. Father Moreau had a vision of priests, brothers, sisters and lay women and
men supporting them, united as a family that would bring hope to a wounded world.
He sent his little flock as missionary disciples to accomplish his aim.
