The theme for our January Associate Conference was “Gifts to Give.” Brother Jim Henke, CSC shared how he tries to implement the Holy Cross charism of creating a family spirit in his ministry of counselling at King’s College.
Dr. Marco Clark, President of Holy Cross College, presented his extensive research on the life of Father James Dujarie. Father Dujarie was the founder of the Brothers of St. Joseph which later joined auxiliary priests with Father Moreau to form our Congregation of Holy Cross. Dujarie had great courage to begin his ministry incognito during the French Revolution in which priests ministered under the threat of death.
Sister Mary Kay Kinsberger, MSC, former president of the Marianites of Holy Cross, reflected on the gifts of the parents of Father Moreau. He received unconditional love and religious training from his mother. His hardworking class father placed in Moreau a hope for a worldwide mission. In her presentation Sister Mary Kay painted a picture of Moreau’s humaness.
Having received the gifts of a family spirit, courage to accept life’s crosses and reliance on God’s providence in our human limitations, we are called to share these gifts from our heritage with the people in our lives.
- What gifts have you received from your parents?
- What part does our Holy Cross tradition play in your spirituality?
- For what gifts from our Holy Cross tradition would you like to pray?
O God, help me be thankful for bringing Holy Cross into my life.
