As the Christmas season comes and goes, hopefully we have carved out a time to truly
see. That means we are relishing the beauty in our lives from the decorations of
Christmas, the falling snow and the people that love us and the people that we love.
God has blest us in many ways through the duration of our lives and we acknowledge
God’s care for us by taking the time to see all that God continues to give us. This ability
to really see the many ways that we have been gifted could ignite a response of
gratefulness. For what are we thankful?
It is by these feelings of thankfulness that we are able to experience the joy that flows
into our hearts and into our lives. This joy of ours begets joy. Our joy is contagious,
and its warmth can alleviate the cold that permeates the world. This can happen at
the drop of a hat when we are given the opportunity to observe the innocent joy of a
little child. There is also the image of the Christopher movement which states that it is
better to light one candle than to curse the darkness. Our joy and our light can do
wonders in making a difference in our world. It all begins with taking the time to see.

• Do you take time to see all of the good things that are happening in your life?

• Does this awareness lead to a response of gratefulness?

• What causes you to experience Christian joy?

O God, open my heart to receive your love and blessing,
that I might experience the joy of being a follower of Christ.
