Sometimes when we are spinning around in circles at a very fast rate, we become dizzy,
and we just want to get off the “merry-go-round.” It might seem that we are really not
going anywhere. Our inevitable routine finds us having the same experiences over and
over again, day after day.
This can be how people sometimes feel about life. “I am going round and then again
around. I wonder, ‘Where do I go from here?’” It takes a contemplative mind to see that
each meeting of a person, each passage of time has a unique presence. Am I open to
notice what is really going on at a deeper level? Where does God, where does my destiny,
where does this encounter fit into the picture? With a contemplative mind I perceive the
heart of the matter seeing the multi-dimensions of what is happening. Each day becomes
an adventure full of surprises. God has new ways of sharing Godself, and I am invited to
respond in a new way.
This experience cannot be captured in definitions. My interactions with others, with
creation, can have significant implications in how I view my life. As the psalmist exclaims,
“THIS is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
