As we grow in the spiritual life, we realize more and more what it means to enter into a relationship with God in Jesus. There are times in our lives when we can put aside all our concerns with its confusion and worries in order to experience God’s presence. This presence can come to us in many ways: when we say certain prayers, in seeing the beauty in nature or art, by seeing the holiness in the smile of a child. These times are gifts from God which help us break through and be attentive to God’s presence.

Along the way we begin to know the circumstances that help us experience God’s presence and most important, God’s unconditional love. These circumstances when repeated become our practice. They are the vehicle that God has chosen to reach us in our unique personality. By returning to “this special place” we acknowledge our practice. What has happened in the past becomes present to us once again. Is not each Mass making present the experience of the Last Supper? Whether in community or personal prayer, God wants us to have access to God’s grace and God’s love throughout our lives.

  • How has God showed you his unconditional love?
  • What are the circumstances that help you receive God’s love?
  • Do you have a practice that helps you get in touch with God’s love for you?

O God, show me what I must do to receive your love.
